Surge Forward Music and Arts CIC //
Producer

April 2019 - present

Surge Forward develops and promotes music from across all genres and cultures with an emphasis on collaboration and commissioning new work. We firmly believe in the power of music to transform lives, heal divisions and in the words of Duke Ellington “music washes away from the souls the dust of everyday life”.

Surge was formed in 2003 by composer-musician Sid Peacock with a commission from Brum legend Paul Murphy to mark Birmingham’s St Patricks’ Day. It expanded over time into Surge Orchestra with concerts featuring up to 25 musicians. In 2019 we developed Surge Forward Music and Arts CIC in order to take our work further. The name is inspired by the Birmingham motto of “Forward”.

In this role I work closely with Sid Peacock to produce a year round programme of performances, artist development opportunities and an annual festival, Surge in Spring at Midlands Arts Centre. Recently this work has included developing from an informational organisation to a Community  Interest Company.

The role also includes overseeing the development, production and delivery of all performances and projects, managing all project budgets, bid writing and managing relationships with funders and partners.
